Important Questions

I see that Dr. Shannon is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, will she provide therapy to me?

It is correct that Dr. Shannon Holliker holds an active license in the state of Florida as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). This credential requires a Master's in Social Work, extensive clinical hours, supervision, and training, and continuing education. As an LCSW, Dr. Holliker is qualified to diagnose mental health disorders, conduct assessments, create treatment plans, and provide therapy. Dr. Shannon has extensive experience in trauma-informed care and mental health crisis intervention. She has over 15 years of clinical experience as a Social Worker. Her background sets her apart from many 'coaches' who do not hold these qualifications. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of coaches claiming to have expertise or qualifications, but their backgrounds do not support that.

Although Dr. Shannon's clinical background is comprehensive and extensive, she does not offer therapy of any kind while providing coaching or consulting, workshops, or education. However, she will identify and discuss any concerns that may be better served in a counseling or therapeutic setting.
Dr. Shannon does see a limited number of clients for therapy. This service is separate and there is no option to transition from one to the other due to the strict ethical parameters that surround therapy and clinical practice.

What can I expect to gain from coaching or consulting?

As a coaching and/or consulting client, you can expect:

  • to identify specific and measurable goals that are specific to what it is that you hope to acheive.
  • expert insight and feedback to help you address your goal(s).
  • consultation which is in-depth collaboration aimed at working through a problem or accomplishing a goal (learning, providing and receiving feedback, and application)
  • coaching which includes challenging perceived barriers or setbacks and encouraging your success.
  • specialized educational support stemming from Dr. Shannon's background and experience.
  • access to free or paid content to help you maximize your own life's success.

** Although Dr. Shannon is a Florida-Licensed (Master's level therapist) Clinical Social Worker, services will not entail counseling or therapy.

What is the difference between coaching , consulting, and therapy?

There are many different answers to this question, but it is an important one.

  • Coaches often help you to adopt a specific plan of action that tends to focus on a very specific or strict outcome. A variety of supportive techniques are used including: mentoring, educating, challenging, and laying out specific steps in helping achieve a goal.
  • Conulting may include aspects of coaching, but also contains the unique support of gentle expertise guidance.
  • Therapy may incorporate some aspects of coaching/consultation, but is primarily focused on assessing, diagnosing, and providing intervention for a mental health or social-emotional concern.
  • Dr. Shannon's services offers a uinque perspective since she is fully credentialed to provide therapeutic services; therefore, she is able to help clients identify and recognize when that option would be more appropriate.
  • Anyone identifying as a coach who does not hold the legal requirements to conduct counseling or therapy cannot practice therapy of any kind. This includes a claim that they are serving as a coach, but are really providing clinical services. Please be sure to check the credentials of any coach or therapist that you would like to have work with you.

What is Dr. Shannon's educational and professional background?
